Native Tree Project Completed in April 2021

BACKGROUND:

The Lakeside Park has, over the years, lost large shade trees and the crab trees have outlived their aesthetic purpose.
OBJECTIVES:
-
To create a demonstration garden made up of some of the most important native trees of Berrien County.

To provide an attractive setting for community events.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:

Enhances the beauty of the primary entry point to Lakeside.

Provides a peaceful spot, appealing to walkers, bikers.
TIMELINE:

June 22, 2020 the Chikaming Park Board unanimously approved a plan for the Lakeside Association to enhance the Triangle.

Lakeside Association's 2020 Annual Newsletter announcement.

June 27, 2020 revitalization plans were presented at the Lakeside Association's Annual meeting.

Fall 2020, Stage 1: planting of native trees (oak, beech, maple, tupelo, white pine).

Spring 2021, Stage 2: planting of native redbuds, dogwood.
